It was more than a week back that I along with Deepasri were invited for the pre launch bash cum review of a F&B joint located in the tallest building of South India, The High Ultra Lounge, a venture of Brigade Hospitality Services Limited (BHSL). The hosts flew us down to Bangalore and this time for a change, I was there in the city for my blog related work. We were only told that the place is conceptualised to be the food and beverage destination in Bangalore and is located on the roof top of Bangalore’s World Trade Centre.
We reached the venue on time and went up by an exclusive Glass lift to the 31st floor where the lounge is located. The lift offers a breath taking view of Bangalore. We were received warmly by Mr. Vineet Verma who is the Executive Director of Brigade Hospitality. While we made ourselves comfortable a refreshing Orange flavoured drink was served. It was almost sunset and we could see the neighbouring areas from that elevation. The ISKON temple seemed quite close by. Under the sky, up above the world with mellifluous music to hear, surrounded by beautiful decor and ambience, I had already made a mental note that this place is soon going to become the crowning jewel for Bangaloreans and the tourists. It is a place which will draw your attention and will definitely set your mood right.
Spread across a lavish 10,000square feet area, at an elevation of 421ft, the place has a seating for 220people and is neatly divided into four areas The High View, The High Mix, High Edge and The High Dine. Each part is aesthetically designed and offers a world class look and feel. ‘Timeless’ is the thought behind the design and which is reflected in the planning, layout and the decor. Each area has it’s own identity and can be easily secluded from the other parts. The changing light colours, the comforting furniture, camouflaging entrances, sound proofing, the tall gardens, all add an extra edge and suggest to the minute detailing gone into the creation of this place.
The very charming Nirupa Shankar who is the Managing Director of Brigade Hospitality and the brains behind the existence of High Ultra Lounge took us on a tour of the place explaining the concept and thought behind each area and it’s highlights. My personal favourite was the High Edge.
We were also taken to the helipad where a candlelit table was set for two. The view from the helipad is mesmerising, as one can see the world under. I must confess, that’s a place to win over your valentine! They are planning to open it for public in future.. It came as a pleasant surprise when all the invited food bloggers were clicked on the helipad.
Our entry into High Life was entertained by the very pleasing Guru Prashanth who is the Director of Bar Operations. He could charm men and women and was eager to serve them their choice of drinks. He demonstrated two cocktails for us, ‘Inception’ and ‘Guru’s Love Potion’. I personally loved the Inception which had a mild flavour of the Rosemary in it.
We were introduced to the Executive Chef Zhang Hao by Mr. Vineet Verma. The Chef has an expertise in Pan Asian cuisine and his culinary wizardry was what we had to experience later that day. The Chef had arranged a food tasting competition for the bloggers and we were served a hot and cold appetiser to taste. Nandita, won in the cold category and I won in the hot category as I was able to guess all the ingredients correctly. The Chef has promised to share the recipe with me and I delayed posting this review as I wanted to share it with my readers. Never mind, I would share it with you in near future. The hot appetiser (cottage cheese with wasabi flavour) was very tasty and I didn’t mind eating more than one.
We were finally led to High Dine for a sit down dinner. The place has it’s own charisma and keeps you engaged with it’s surroundings. The open to sky dining experience on the 31st floor came with a nip in the air which later became a chill in the air by the time we finished. We were served an extensive menu of the modern Pan Asian cuisine created by Chef Zhang Hao. I had limited options to try being a vegetarian but I liked the Sesame Cheese Roll, Sweet Corn With Coriander Butter, Sweet Potato with Teriyaki reduction but Grilled Tofu with Korean Chilli Sauce was a declared winner, it was outstanding. I also liked the Thai green curry with steamed rice. Capturing photographs while eating under the sky became a little difficult and eventually the camera was kept aside.
We were served two desserts a Tender Coconut Ice Cream and the Banofee Pie along with freshly cut fruits. The Ice Cream had a very homely feel and the Banofee was very well made and I loved the strong flavour of caramel in it.
The entire experience at HIGH ULTRA LOUNGE was overwhelming and I thank the team for inviting and treating us with the pre launch bash. As I said initially, it is soon going to be a destination for the Bangaloreans and the tourists and personally I will look forward to visiting it again.
The place has opened for public on the 6th Feb’14..
